Fostering the adoption of digital technologies by forest managers

Summary

This project aims to boost digital transformation in producers, entrepreneurs, and managers of the forestry sector and, in particular, in micro, small, and medium-sized Forest Producers’ Organizations (FPOs). This transformation will occur through adoption of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and technical support to facilitate the dematerialization of business processes and services.

Main Activities

Dissemination & Promotion

  • Demonstration and testing, in a real environment, of technologies suitable for the OPF and forest managers' activities, involving potential users

Qualification & Internationalization

  • Implementation of a collaborative network based on a digital platform, to exchange information and promote the adoption of digital technologies, particularly by OPF and forest managers

Research, Development & Innovation

  • Elaboration of a technological diagnosis of OPF and forest managers
  • Benchmarking on IT solutions for process dematerialization for OPF and forest managers

4HUB: Digital and training hubs for the forest sector

Results

– new mapping services – land cover map for 2022, bi-monthly land use and land cover change maps, maps of vegetation cover in fuel management strips;

– new artificial intelligence (AI) models: stock classes (eucalyptus and maritime pine), estimated age classes (eucalyptus and maritime pine), post-fire landscape evolution, occurrence of pests (eucalyptus and maritime pine);

– rural fire risk warning and forecasting platform.
