Plant breeding & seed producing orchards resilient to climate change

Summary

This project aims at developing breeding programs for Maritime pine (Pinus pinaster) and Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus spp.) for producing plants with high productivity and well-adapted to environmental conditions. Emphasis will be placed on obtaining plants with greater resilience to changes in more adverse climatic conditions and tolerance to the effects of pests and diseases. It is also intended to develop new multiplication methodologies for native species with high conservation value, such as oaks (Quercus spp.) and Strawberry tree (Arbutus unedo), responding to the current lack of forest reproductive material.
