Last week, Figueira da Foz was the setting for several training sessions dedicated to the management and optimisation of forestry operations, as part of the transForm Agenda. Between 9 and 11 October, forest managers and operators had the opportunity to take part in initiatives focused on the latest technologies and methodologies for more efficient and sustainable forest management.
The training session ‘Machine evaluation for more effective management of forestry operations’, held on 9 October, was led by expert Mauricio Acuna, from the Institute of Natural Resources – LUKE. This event, promoted by Agenda transForm’s Forest Knowledge Academy project, allowed participants to explore techniques for evaluating and optimising forestry equipment, using tools such as ALPACA, applied to real scenarios. The initiative was organised by CoLAB ForestWISE, in partnership with The Navigator Company and Altri Florestal, and with the support of Biond – Forest Fibers from Portugal.
On 10 October, Professor Maurício Acuna led the workshop ‘Innovative Technologies for Sustainable Forestry Operations’, part of the ‘advance forest’ project. During the event, the main technological trends in forestry operations were presented, such as Artificial Intelligence, Automation, Robotics and Digitalisation, highlighting the importance of monitoring and data analysis for the sustainability of the sector. This workshop was organised by Biond, in collaboration with CoLAB ForestWISE, and funded by the Environmental Fund.
The training week culminated on 11 October with the lecture ‘Enhanced measurement of timber loads at mill gates based on novel photogrammetry methods’, held at CELBI in Figueira da Foz. Professor Acuna shared his experience in developing new technologies for the digital measurement of wood and biomass at the entrance to the industry, at an event organised by Altri Florestal, Biond, CoLAB ForestWISE and The Navigator Company.
These initiatives reinforce the transForm Agenda’s commitment to promoting innovation and efficiency in forestry operations, contributing to more sustainable management of natural resources.
