Forestis brings “Better Forest” to Boticas

Last Friday, September 13, Forestis carried out a demonstration visit to the pilot area of Fiães do Tâmega e do Veral, in Boticas, as part of the Better Forestry project of the transForm Agenda, in partnership with CAPOLIB.

Participants got an up-close look at the good forestry practices implemented in the field.

It should be noted that the aim of this project is to develop and promote Good Forestry Practices in order to make the forest more resilient to the risks to which it is subject, while also promoting active management.

In this pilot area, it was possible to see in detail the main interventions that took place, related to strengthening the work of Forest Producers’ Organizations (02/C08-I05.02/2022) and carrying out small stabilization actions after the 2022 fire, which affected a significant area of pine forest, approximately 223 hectares, in the Fiães do Tâmega e Veral wasteland unit.

As for the other intervention implemented by CAPOLIB, its purpose was to improve the resilience and environmental value of Forests.

By carrying out the proposed interventions, the aim is to increase the resilience of the stands, promote their good development in the future, and already have some economic return from them (through the sale of material for forest biomass and treated wood).
