Among other objectives, the NewChain project aims to develop technologies to strengthen the value chains of non-wood forest products with the greatest potential and profitability in Portugal. The project will focus on increasing the production capacity and competitiveness of the Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) involved, ensuring that all segments of the value chain comply with the principles of sustainability.
In this context, Amorim Florestal is developing equipment that makes it possible to strip cork oaks using new capacitive reading technologies.
The aim of this research is to develop a technology that makes it possible to differentiate between cork and cork oak bark when cutting. This technology will also make it possible to use a conventional electric pruner on the market and adapt it to extract cork without damaging the cork oaks.
